Christmas came early for the winner of our $100,000 giveaway

A young Bay of Plenty family received an early Christmas present this year with $100,000 to put towards their next property purchase.

Mother of two, Sofia*, was in disbelief on the morning of Friday 1 December when the number she had saved as ‘100k winner’ flashed up on her phone. 

The family of four are currently living in their first home, a small property they spent several years saving for and have been renovating to step up to a bigger home for their growing family.

Illness put these plans on hold as Sofia had to stop working for a year while she was in and out of the hospital. 

But with her home dreams in mind, Sofia kept an eye on realestate.co.nz as she returned to health and work.

“I’ve been a long-time user of realestate.co.nz and thought I’d have a quick browse on the app when the $100,000 giveaway popped up.

“I never dreamt that we’d even have a chance of winning but eagerly entered – I think the only thing I’d ever won was a free bottle of Coke!

“I honestly couldn’t believe it when I saw the number pop up on my phone; I just kept thinking, this cannot be real.

“We are beyond grateful for the prize. After some bad news in the family recently, it couldn’t have come at a better time for us, and it truly feels like a miracle.

“The prize will allow us to move into a bigger place where the kids can have a bedroom each, and we’d also love to have the space for a separate dwelling where my mum can live. 

“Our real hope is that this will enable us to keep working hard and pay this tremendous gift forward and hopefully help others who are struggling.”

The winner was drawn at random through a number generator.
