The first Ecotiny home goes mainstream as Kiwis look for alternative homes.
A ‘tiny house’ is the first of it’s kind for sale on realestate.co.nz, as Kiwis search for different ways to get onto the property ladder, says realestate.co.nz spokesperson Vanessa Taylor.
“The tiny house movement has been growing in response to the high cost of home purchase, particularly in the main centres,” says Vanessa.
“It’s also appealing to a demographic seeking a more simplified way of life and concerned about their environmental footprint.”
The 22 sq.m. prototype Ecotiny house listed here in the Wellington region, is powered by solar panels and wind turbine generation for the option of living off the grid. The light-filled open plan layout has living, dining, kitchen and bedroom areas and a separate toilet/shower. The home comes complete with Scandinavian inspired cabinetry and furniture.
The Ecotiny house has attracted significant attention online. Te Aro (where the Ecotiny house is currently located) was the most searched suburb for homes in the Wellington region in April. The average number of unique views to individual properties in Te Aro was 462. By contrast, the number of views to the Ecotiny house has been 2,047 in less than a month, showcasing the popularity of this unique tiny home.
As well as a great step for first home buyers, the house also gives options for parents or family members wanting to help out others. For example, it could be bought and relocated to their property** and then sell it once their children have got their foot onto the property ladder.
