Refresh your master bedroom with Shelley Ferguson

Your bedroom is one of the most used rooms in the house - it’s your personal space where you can rest, relax and rejuvenate. If you’re feeling like your bedroom could do with a bit of a freshen up, take inspiration from the new season and create a cool, calm aesthetic.

Interior designer Shelley Ferguson shares her tips and tricks for creating a beautiful master bedroom you’ll love - watch on below to find out more.

Here are Shelley's top five tips:

1. Freshen up your paintwork

The easiest way to freshen up your room is to add a new coat of paint - it instantly lifts a room. Make sure you’ve considered the theme you want to create with your room and choose a colour to match. Something light and neutral is always a good way to go, as you can swap out up the interior elements when you want a change.

2. Add a floral touch

Adding flowers is a really simple way to add both texture and scent to a room. A formal posie can look beautiful in a tailored room, while wildflowers create a more bohemian vibe. It doesn’t need to cost the earth either – pick some flowers from the garden to keep it simple or invest in some beautiful fake flowers for an easy way to bring that texture.

3. Create a statement bed

If your bed is a statement and stand out piece in the room, you don’t need to do too much else. Create a statement bed by bringing a beautiful headboard in to ground your bed in the space. Then think about how you dress the bed - stack your cushions from biggest to smallest. Start with big euro pillows, sleeping pillows in the middle and some fun coloured accent cushions to top it off.

4. Bring the outside in

Bringing in elements of the outdoors inside is a lovely way to add a fresh summer vibe to your bedroom. Add timber furniture in organic shapes and some plants and you’ll bring that beachy feeling to life.

5. Evoke emotion using scent

Coco Chanel once famously said that ‘perfume is the ultimate accessory’. Scent evokes a powerful emotional response in us, so it’s the perfect way to ground your bedroom and create the feeling you’re looking for. Use a candle or diffuser to bring that scent in, or opt for fresh flowers depending on your budget.
