Create a luxe Christmas table with Shelley Ferguson

Christmas is just around the corner – and if your to-do list is anything like ours, you'll be looking for some tips and tricks to make it easy. One way to bring your Christmas to life is through a beautiful Christmas table design.

Interior designer Shelley Ferguson is here to help, showing you how to style a luxe Christmas setting in six easy steps – watch on below.

1. Choose a theme

First up – choose a theme. This is a good place to start as it will guide your shopping, give you focus and create beautiful visual impact on your table. Have a look online on Pinterest or Instagram to get inspired by different theme ideas. We’ve chosen a luxe summer theme for our table.

2. Build a base

Start simple, by building a base with a table cloth and runner. We’ve used simple white linen to ground the look, and a table runner to draw your eyes into the centre. Then add placemats to suit your theme - we’ve gone for gold leatherette look placemats from Farmers, with a fun pattern.

3. Mix and match crockery

Have some fun by mixing and matching your crockery. We’ve used two different ranges from Farmers, but they still have a cohesive feature that makes it work together – that imperfect glazed ceramic look.

4. Add cutlery and glassware

To add some luxury, we’ve used gold cutlery and beautiful glassware to elevate the look.

5. Create a floral centrepiece

Now for the fun part – creating a centrepiece. We’ve gone for a floral theme, using a variety of seasonal flowers that add a beautiful scent to your table too. We’ve got protea, stock, peonies and roses, grouped together in vases along the centre. Use different heights of vases to bring some dimension and interest to the table.

6. Add your personal touch

Time for the finishing touches – add something that you love to your table so that it feels like ‘you’. Shelley chose her favourite crystal, and candles (the Ecoya Christmas candle is a must, it smells divine).
