Mike Ledger | Harcourts Upper Hutt
Agent of Excellence FY2020

We caught up with one of our Agents of Excellence, Mike Ledger, to chat about how he likes to start his day off with a swim before he caffeinates, his start into sales and more.

What are your morning rituals?

We get up at 6.30 / 7 o’clock and start with some exercise. We either head to the gym at home, go out for a walk or go swimming. I love swimming; swimming into the jets for a bit gives me a chance to think about the day.  We then have a coffee at the mall, a real ritual for us, catching up with people we see there.

What was your first-ever sales job?

My first sales job was at the age of 19. I joined Guardian Royal Exchange Insurance. But about ten years before that, I sold newspapers at Greenlane and National Women’s Hospital. It was 20 cents for a Herald, and I used to go into the rooms and say, “Morning Herald?” It was always dangerous going into a room where a sheet was over the person's head; they weren’t buying!

What is the best piece of professional advice you've been given?

The most important piece of advice for me is that nothing comes for free. You’ve got to work hard and the results will come.

Who inspires you?

My children inspire me the most. What they have been able to achieve and what we have been able to allow them to achieve is a real driving factor for us. It’s been amazing watching our three boys succeed as they grow up – giving them everything to succeed is the inspiration for me.

What do you love about being a real estate agent?

It’s helping others, helping them reach their goals. Being trusted by our owners to sell their biggest asset is a real buzz. I also love the chase, love the negotiation. But just being able to help others through their journey is what it’s all about. And seeing the results, the satisfaction, enjoyment, tears and laughter from our owners, when they achieve, is just brilliant.

What is your biggest career fail?

I can’t think of anything, really. Well, I was shot at when I worked at the police!

What is your favourite thing about working with realestate.co.nz?

They’re the leading brand in the industry against a lot of other websites. The service, the information, the support and the real people is what I love about working with realestate.co.nz. They are there at the drop of a hat to support us.
