What are your morning rituals?

I am up at 4.50 am most mornings, and I dive straight into a cold shower to wake up. Then, four times a week, I go to the gym to work out with a personal trainer – this keeps me focused and balanced throughout the week. After that, I head into a café to set my routine for the day before going into the office.

What was your first-ever sales job?

It was actually real estate. I had a few jobs while studying, but my first 'real-world job' was in real estate. Straight out of the frying pan into the fire!

What is the best piece of professional advice you've been given?

I have a quote that says, "10 or 100 – your choice" at my desk. It was a vendor that said this to me. What that means is: you can do a good job, and ten people will find out, but if you do a bad job, 100 people will find out – and it's your choice which number you want to be. This has stuck with me throughout my career.

Who inspires you?

There are people both within and outside the real estate industry who inspire me. People outside the industry have had the most impact – Robert Sharma, who wrote 'The 5 AM Club', has good positive energy; he is always driving forward. Bob Procter is another key influence, he wrote 'You Were Born Rich', which essentially drives the message that you can achieve whatever you want. They've both put a lot of content out since Covid-19, which has been helpful during this time of uncertainty.

What do you love about being a real estate agent?

I think it's the interaction with people. You either love working with people or you don't, and this industry means that you need to form lots of connections with people. I find it challenging in that you see the best and worst in people. I like to think of myself as a bit of a lateral thinker, so the more challenging things get, the more I enjoy finding a suitable solution for those involved.

What is your biggest career fail?

Hiring my sister! Just joking – she actually still works for me. Once I did screw up around a chattel's list and did have to buy someone a spa pool - and they didn't even invite me back to use it! My mindset is every small hurdle is an opportunity to learn from.

What is your favourite thing about working with realestate.co.nz?

The people you have within realestate.co.nz and the service they provide – your account managers are unbelievable; they are always in contact with you and catch up with no agenda, which is uncommon in the industry we work in. They have genuine care for their customers and clients. And then on top of that, there is the product you provide – it's always been there, it's great and has a good brand presence. But above all is the people for me.
